The Cry of Independence is probably one of the most anticipated Mexican traditions of the year. This act recalls the moment when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla the father of the nation made the call to start the independence movement in 1810.

The so-called Fiestas Patrias begin at 11:00 p.m. on September 15 with the ceremony of the Grito, Which is in charge of the President of Mexico in the Zocalo of Mexico City; and of the governors and municipal presidents of each of the states in the rest of the country. If you visit the Mexican Caribbean destinations on these dates, if you wish, you will be able to witness how the Cancun´s municipal president goes out to the balcony of the Municipal Presidency to address everyone gathered at the Esplanade of the Cancun Municipal Palace and give the “Grito de Independencia” (Cry of Independence). It is the most emotional moment of the entire celebration, where the main heroes of the country are mentioned, accompanied by many “¡Viva Mexico!” (Long live Mexico!). Afterwards, you can enjoy an unforgettable Mexican Night in some of the hotels, restaurants, bars or night clubs which are prepared with the best for this celebration.

This national event ends with a fabulous fireworks display that you can admire from the hotel zone. Don´t miss it!
