PRESERVING OUR PRECIOUS PARADISE

PRESERVING OUR PRECIOUS PARADISE

Sunset Green World is the brand under which Sunset World showcases its environmental preservation, restoration and development actions.

Our approach is to use resources sparingly, protect valuable ecosystems and adhere to rigorous sustainable practices. Our sustainable practices are the consequence of our desire to preserve our precious natural resources and home. Our main objective is to be leaders in sustainable tourism development in harmony with the environment, local society, culture and economy.

SMALL ACTIONS THAT ADD UP

We at Sunset World care about the environment and we recommend that members, guests and our coworkers take concrete actions to take care of valuable resources such as water and energy.

SUNSET WORLD ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM

In August 2014 Sunset World launched an Energy Efficiency Program to reduce its carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency by upgrading air conditioning systems, water heaters and LED lighting in our six hotels.

These sustainable actions consisted of 3 stages:

Step 1

1) Identification. The operational and technology points where energy waste was detected.

Step 1

2)Implementation.Technologies were replaced and processes that caused unnecessary energy consumption and emission of pollutants were changed.

Step 1

3) Annual measurement of results.

RESULTS OVER THE YEARS

Reducing the consumption of electrical energy and fuels and the release of C02 emissions into the atmosphere has measurable benefits for the environment, the community where we operate and our members and guests.
Here are the results:
These results make Sunset World a leader in a tourism sector that is turning towards a sustainable model in order to protect the environment.

INFOGRAPHICS 2016 to 2020

2020 brought benefits in this regard. In addition to the closure of the hotels due to the pandemic, the Energy Efficiency Program continued to operate, which yielded the following results: Electricity consumption was reduced by 38%, the use of fossil fuels was reduced by 14% and CO2 emissions decreased by 36%.

2021 Sunset World managed to reduce its consumption of fossil fuels by 32%, its percentage of electric energy consumption is equivalent to closing its 6 hotels for 4 months and reducing its CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 3.8 times less than what it emitted in 2014.

During 2022, we managed to reduce electricity consumption by 28%, which is equivalent to closing all our hotels for 4 months. The use of fuels decreased by 43%, which is comparable to not using 1,963 cars for a year. We also reduced our CO2 emissions to 4.6 times less than what we generated in 2014, which is equivalent to not cutting down 47,129 trees. Therefore, as of today, we are a carbon-neutral company.

CLEAN AND RENEWABLE ENERGY

Sunset World continuously looks for ways to take care of the environment and reduce its carbon footprint, so it made an agreement with a Mexican company that produces energy with wind farms and thermoelectric plants. Since February 2020 60% of the energy that the hotels consume comes from a clean, renewable source.

Sunset World avoids emitting 6,984 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually. As a reference, 1 ton of C02 released into the atmosphere is equivalent to the jet fuel consumed by a plane on a round trip flight between Madrid and New York.

OUR ACTIONS

Our commitment ranges from small actions like lighting torches at our resorts to support Earth Hour, a yearly global event held to draw attention to the importance of energy savings, to large-scale sustainable developments that don’t impact our natural surroundings
