Cancun is home to more Platinum (Platino) certified beaches than anywhere else Mexico. This certification is awarded by the Mexican Institute of Normalization and Certification, A.C. (IMNC). Its objective is to showcase Mexican beaches’ scenic beauty, facilities, safety, environmental excellence, accessibility and relevant signage.

There are four Platinum beaches in Cancun… Playa del Niño, Las Perlas, Chac Mool and Ballenas, in addition to three others… Coral, Delfines and Marlin, which are in category D (for recreational use), the highest rating.

All seven beaches in the state of Quintana Roo with this distinction are located in Cancun in the Benito Juárez municipality.

This recognition is the result of high standards and the hard work, attention and care put into these incomparable natural spaces. There is enormous motivation to take care of the beaches, since they are one of the most valuable resources in Cancun and are one of the things that make it a world-class vacation destination.

Cancun’s beaches are helping the Mexican Institute of Normalization and Certification, A.C. (IMNC)’s meet its goal of 100 km of clean, sustainable beaches in Mexico.
