Sixth Sea Turtle Week

The official sea turtle nesting season 2022 has begun, and the beaches of Quintana Roo are lucky to receive the visit of this protected species, which year after year chooses our beaches to lay their eggs, which are protected until the moment of hatching.

Sea turtle protection is a major issue for the state of Quintana Roo, and in recent days, the State Sea Turtle Week was celebrated for the sixth consecutive year. It is a program that promotes important actions for the protection and conservation of this beautiful species through the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Ministry of Education.

During this week, activities are carried out to raise awareness among the local population and tourists about the importance of protecting the four species of turtles that nest on the beaches of Quintana Roo. Among the activities is the dissemination of educational materials about turtles on social media and promoting the importance of coastal and marine ecosystems conservation.

If you are on vacation in Cancún during the nesting season, which runs from May to October, it is very likely you will experience this wonderful natural phenomenon, since the beach of Sunset World’s Sunset Royal hotel actively participates in the conservation of sea turtles.
