The Mesoamerican Biological Corridor is one of the most important conservation initiatives on the continent. It is a regional strategy that seeks to connect natural ecosystems from southern Mexico to Panama, enabling the movement of species, the preservation of biodiversity, and the balance of the environments that sustain life.
The Mesoamerican Biological Corridor is an initiative promoted by the ministries of environment and natural resources of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. It comprises a network of protected natural areas, buffer zones, and productive territories that function as ecological bridges. Its objective is to prevent habitat fragmentation, facilitating the movement, reproduction, and adaptation of flora and fauna species, especially in the face of climate change.

The Mesoamerican Biological Corridor focuses not only on conservation but also on an integration that balances development and sustainability. Among its main implications are the conservation of biodiversity by protecting endangered species and their natural habitats, ecological connectivity by creating corridors that link fragmented ecosystems, sustainable development by promoting environmentally responsible productive activities, community participation by involving local communities in the management and conservation of natural resources, and climate change mitigation by protecting forests and jungles that act as carbon sinks.
In line with the objectives of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, Sunset World Group has developed a comprehensive sustainability strategy through its Sunset Green World initiative, focused on reducing its environmental impact and actively contributing to the conservation of ecosystems in the Mexican Caribbean. With its Energy Efficiency Program, Sunset World Group has implemented the use of technologies and practices that optimize energy consumption, reducing emissions and promoting responsible hotel operations.
Furthermore, Sunset World Group has a dedicated space for the production and care of native species, which contributes to the reforestation and restoration of local ecosystems, strengthening the region’s biodiversity. It is also part of the National Sea Turtle Protection Program, carrying out monitoring, nest protection, and hatchling release activities. Finally, it also participates in global environmental awareness initiatives such as Earth Hour, promoting reduced energy consumption and collective reflection on caring for the planet.
Other sustainable initiatives of the Sunset World Group include responsible waste management, environmental education programs for employees and guests on the efficient use of water and energy, and the protection of coastal ecosystems. Through Sunset Green World, the Sunset World Group not only reduces its environmental footprint but also joins a broader regional effort to protect the natural wealth that makes the Mexican Caribbean and Central America an invaluable treasure for present and future generations.
