Cancún International Airport is continuing its modernization process with a significant investment from ASUR. This initiative includes funding for infrastructure and improvements scheduled for the second half of 2026, as part of an expansion and renovation program aimed at boosting terminal capacity and enhancing the passenger experience.
According to ASUR, these investments are part of a long-term program for Cancún International Airport that includes expanding Terminals 1 and 4, widening taxiways, and upgrading various equipment and facilities. In 2025 alone, ASUR allocated 7 billion pesos to capital investments, primarily for projects in Cancún and other terminals in the southeast region.
One of the most significant projects is the remodeling of Terminal 1, which is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026. ASUR states that this new infrastructure will allow for the redistribution of passenger flows, reduce pressure on Terminal 2, and create greater commercial capacity.
This modernization addresses Cancún’s sustained growth as one of Mexico’s premier tourist destinations and seeks to strengthen its air connectivity and operational capacity. Currently, the airport features four passenger terminals and two runways, cementing its status as a strategic asset for tourism in the Mexican Caribbean. In this context, ASUR’s investments represent a significant step toward preparing the airport for evolving demand and maintaining Cancún’s status as a primary gateway for domestic and international travelers entering Mexico.
