Since 2009, the UN General Assembly has established October 13 as a day to raise awareness of the need for Disaster Risk Reduction due to the rising costs associated with disasters, reflecting the growing impact of climate change and poor development decisions. Worldwide, countries are facing increasingly severe natural disasters, driven by extreme weather events and risk-ignoring planning.
The 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction calls for increased financing for Disaster Risk Reduction in public budgets and international aid, and for ensuring that all public and private sector investments in development are risk-informed and resilient.
In this regard, it’s worth mentioning that every year at Sunset World, we diligently prepare and train our staff to face hurricane season (between June and November). We also verify that our assigned shelters comply with the necessary safety measures and are certified by Civil Protection.
