On February 6th and 7th, Chetumal was filled with rhythm and good vibes at Reggae Fest 2026, a festival held for the fourth year, solidifying the capital of Quintana Roo as the gateway for this musical genre in Mexico. The energy overflowed with the brilliance of outstanding performances by solo artists and local groups, as well as those from other cities in the state and from other states.
Among the groups that performed were Tormento de la Urraca, Despika, Yahwayane, Majahve, Los Olvidados del Carmen, Corpus Klan, Ellos, La Grande Reggae Band, Chan Santa Roots, Hierba Santa, Galáctika Deep Roots, Changora Drums, Lalo Pérez, Shura Pikovska, Panchi Morgan, and Antidoping.
The festival pays homage to the Caribbean roots that form part of the state’s cultural identity, while also strengthening the social fabric through music and art.
Reggae originated in Jamaica in the 1960s and arrived in Mexico via Chetumal from Belize in the mid-1980s. For this reason, Chetumal, the capital of Quintana Roo, has been designated the gateway for reggae to Mexico.
