On April 20th, Cancún celebrated its 55th anniversary with the “Cancún People’s Parade,” which featured 11 groups of participants who marched through the main avenues of the Founding Zone. The parade captured the attention of locals and visitors who joined in this celebration of identity.
Each group had a theme, such as “Cancún is a Pioneer,” “Cancún is Mexico,” “70’s” “Cancún is Culture,” “Cancún is Tourism,” “Cancún is Sports,” and “Cancún is Transformation.” Participants included people of all ages, artists, athletes, civil associations, hotel and government employees, as well as residents from across Mexico and around the world, celebrating the multicultural nature of Cancún.
At the closing of this commemorative parade, the contingents cut the cake commemorating Cancún’s 55th anniversary and listened to the traditional “Mañanitas” performed by the mariachi band “Vino Tinto.” They also danced with the danzon group to the rhythm of the Benito Juárez’ City Hall Music Band.
