Crocodiles play important roles in maintaining the health of ecosystems. Female crocodiles are overprotective of their nests; by being present in a given area, they indirectly protect the nests of other animals such as turtles, iguanas, and birds. Additionally, by swimming and moving from one area to another, they create channels and holes that serve as refuges for small organisms such as fish and shrimp.
Crocodiles are predators that help maintain the balance of wetlands like those around Hacienda Tres Ríos and Sunset Marina, promoting species diversity and contributing to the recycling of organic matter. We must respect them!
