Beaches in Isla Mujeres Obtain Platinum Certification

Isla Mujeres is one of the most visited destinations in Quintana Roo and a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) declared by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism and has just obtained a new certification thanks to the protection and conservation of its beaches.

The Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification of Beaches A.C. awarded a total of 36 Platinum Certifications during the celebration of the Third Meeting of Sustainable Beaches held last November in Punta de Mita, Nayarit. Among the certified beaches are Playa Norte and Playa Centro in Isla Mujeres, which, according to Antonio Delgado, Director of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zomefat) is, thanks to the fact that both beaches comply with the required standards for such certification, among which are cleanliness, water quality and safety

Playa Norte, One of the Best in the World

It is important to mention that Playa Norte is recognized as one of the 25 best beaches in the world. It is a public beach with shallow crystalline waters ideal for swimming, and has a wide extension of soft white beach, this makes Playa Norte one of the favorite spots for national and international tourists to enjoy a relaxing day on the beach.

Isla Mujeres is Very Close to the White Flag Recognition

The recent Platinum certification of Playa Norte and Playa Centro represents the first step towards the White Flag recognition which is highest for the best beaches in the country provided by national authorities. Antonio Delgado added that during these months they will seek to reinforce inclusion and sustainability in these beaches to achieve this accolade by the middle of 2023.
