With effective actions like Continuous Environmental Training for its employees, Sunset World Group once again demonstrated its ecological vocation on two important dates for environmental conservation, February 2nd, World Wetlands Day and February 26th, World Environmental Education Day.

On World Wetlands Day, Gabriel Santoyo, Director of Sustainable Development of Grupo Sunset World commented, “A wetland is an area that is temporarily or permanently flooded and where plants and animals that are adapted to the important presence of water during different seasons of the year live. Mangroves, which abound on the coasts of Quintana Roo, are a type of wetland that develop in brackish water, a mixture of fresh and marine water, and provide various environmental services, such as carbon capture, wildlife habitat and water filtration, among others. To protect them, all the buildings at Hacienda Tres Ríos were contructed almost three meters above sea level, ensuring that mangrove water flows freely under the buildings, through pilings and a permeable rock base. ”

It was at Hacienda Tres Ríos where the most recent session of Continuous Environmental Training was held. Hacienda Tres Ríos is the flagship hotel of Grupo Sunset World and has been recognized nationally and internationally as a model of sustainability, yet doesn’t skimp on luxury for its guests. From its origins to daily operations, the benefits of sustainability have been palpable. Hacienda Tres Ríos combines the natural beauty of the environment and the sophistication of a well-planned design and innovative architecture.

“The daily activities of a hotel involve a series of challenges for the correct management of resources, environmental conservation and social responsibility,” says Eng. Orlando Arroyo, CEO of Sunset World Group. “That is why it is important to establish an environmental management system, or Good Environmental Practices, that are constantly followed. This action means the staff members are responsible for the conservation and sustainable development of the environment, including their workplace and their community,” he concluded.
